Chris Stonecipher

Chris grew up in central Illinois. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, completing 3 deployments to Iraq. It was during his time between deployments that he first started tattooing.

After leaving the Marines in 2006, Chris began tattooing full-time in the busy Pacific Beach area of San Diego, CA. It was there that he honed his skills in a fast-paced, street-style shop, working in a variety of styles. In 2011, he returned home to Decatur, and after several years working alongside great friends in the local tattoo scene, he opened Oakwood Tattoo in 2015 on Decatur’s west end.

Chris takes great pride in the atmosphere and environment Oakwood Tattoo has cultivated, offering a space where clients can feel comfortable and confident and the artists feel proud to call home. While experienced in all styles, his primary focus is American traditional tattooing and portrait work.

Chris works by appointment only for the most part and is in the shop Tuesday through Friday.
